Leonid Pasternak: Portrait of a Woman in a Hat and Fur Collar, c.1895

  • Known primarily as a painter, draughtsman, and illustrator closely associated with the Russian intelligentsia of the late 19th and early 20th centuries, Pasternak brought a painterly sensibility to his graphic work. This etching reflects his mastery of line and his ability to combine realism with subtle psychological insight, qualities that align his work with both Russian realism and broader European graphic traditions of the period.

Leonid Pasternak was the father of the poet and novelist Boris Pasternak, author of the novel “Doctor Zhivago”.
